The New Forest Pony temperament is so calm that they are really suitable for children. In Europe the New Forest Pony is a popular breed. Children ride them in a variety of disciplines. Most excel at jumping, and this combined with good natural paces makes them super performance ponies.

The New Forest Ponies have proven themselves at the highest level in the dressage discipline. They are regularly included in the national pony teams of several European countries including the United Kingdom.

The New Forest ponies make excellent harness ponies as they usually have little fear of traffic They are noted for their handiness and are highly successful in FEI driving competitions Even the queen has frequently owned a matching pair of New Forest ponies for her own driving use!
